December 1, 4 PM at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church
On Sunday, December 1 The People's Liberation Big Band of Greater Kansas City will present a concert featuring music from Owen/Cox Dance Group’s contemporary jazz adaptation of 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King' at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Kansas City, MO.
In addition to performing whimsical and highly unique arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s beloved score, the performance will feature historical insights into E.T.A. Hoffman’s 1816 story 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,' and trace the story’s unlikely journey from its origin as a dark and fantastical fairy tale to becoming the world’s most popular ballet.
Sixteen musicians of The People’s Liberation Big Band, led by Brad Cox, will perform arrangements by Cox, Patrick Alonzo Conway, Jeff Harshbarger, and Forest Stewart. Notable Kansas City musicians performing include Matt Otto (saxophone), Rich Wheeler (saxophone), and Jeff Harshbarger (bass).

Owen/Cox Dance Group stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. The unnecessary violence and danger that the people of Ukraine are experiencing is heartbreaking. We are directly concerned for our partners in Kyiv, Poltava, and Kharkiv. The intention for the OCDG U.S. Department of State Public Diplomacy Tour has always been to spread tolerance and inclusivity along with expanding our understanding of who we are and what we can become through the healing of the arts. We hope for a speedy return to peace for the sake of all Ukrainians. |
